WELCOME TO THE FOUNTAIN HOSE WEBSITE

    Welcome to our Site

Welcome to the Fountain Hose Company Number One Website.  The Fountain Hose was founded in 1876 and has been proudly serving the citizens of Ansonia since that year and continue to do the same today.  The company has pride for the fire service and for the city and people of Ansonia that they serve.  We are one of five firehouses that comprise the Ansonia Fire Department.  Although there are five firehouses in the city we operate as one department for the City of Ansonia.  We are dedicated to protecting life and property.  The Ansonia Fire Department and its five fire companies are fully volunteer.  The Fountain Hose Company Number 1 hold their monthly business meeting on the First Tuesday of Every Month unless it falls on a holiday or on election day, in which we have our meeting the following Tuesday.  The second Tuesday of every month is our monthly drill.  Each additional Tuesday of the month supplemental drills are held for all members interested in training.  We are always looking for new members to join the company.  No Experience required!  We will train in-house and other training you will be sent out for if you wish to take part in additional training.  Please if you are interested and would like to learn more about volunteering at your local firehouse stop by any time you see a member at the firehouse.  For additional information you may see the join tab link located in a navigation bar.  Thank you for visiting our website.  Come back again soon to check out new things.

    2009-2010 Fiscal Year End

It is that time of year again.  The Fountain Hose Co 1 has officially ended it 2009-2010 Fiscal Year.  Our year runs from June 1 - May 31.  On June 1st 2010 the members of the Fountain Hose Company 1 will vote for the 2010-2011 Company Officers and so we will begin another year.  This past year has been a great year for the company.  We have received some new members and managed to send some members to training classes free of charge thanks to a Federal Grant the Ansonia Fire Department received for training.  Many members have gone to take Firefighter I and Fire Service Instructor I and various other classes the department has been offering from the grant.  The Firefighter I class is in its finishing days they will be graduating and finally taking their final exam within the next week.  Good Luck to all members from the Ansonia Fire Department that are in the class and will be taking their State Written Test Next week.  One member from the company attended the Fire Service Instructor class provided by the city.  The one member that attended the class from the company has passed the exam and is now certified as a Fire Service Instructor I.
Training has always been a task for the Fountain Hose Co 1 with members not showing up and not always knowing what to drill on.  Trying to not repeat the same drills week after week is always a tough task.  However, in the past year the company has been able to adapt to the ever-changing fire service and create and conduct drills to keep the interest of the members.  Attendance has always been an issue, however, since a new training program has been implemented the numbers attending the company drills has been on the raise.  I hope we can continue to keep the membership showing up to drills.  Please check at the firehouse for upcoming drills for the each month they will be posted on the white board.
Since we are a fire department one of main tasks is to respond to various Emergencies within the West Side area of the town as First Due.  As well we often respond to many calls to other parts of town as Second and Third Due responses.  The company is also given a four month block of responding to Mutual Aid calls within all the surrounding towns of Ansonia.  We will be ended out Mutual Rotation at the end of June.
The Fountain Hose Company Number 1 has responded to 127 various Emergencies in the past year.  The following is a breakdown of the Companies calls attended.   Please keep in mind that some incidents are grouped within out categories.
